The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Gets a New Engine

The Chevrolet Silverado is one of Canada’s best-selling pickups and it has been like that for a very long time. For 2019, the new Silverado gets plenty of improvements including a new and redesigned interior cabin, a more modern structure which leads to improved comfort and better capability, and a brand-new engine.

The Silverado is still offered with both the 5.3-litre and 6.2-litre V8 engine options, but it is also offered with a brand-new, very impressive 2.7-litre turbocharged engine that gives Chevy’s full-size pickup an extra boost of power while also keeping fuel consumption in check. There is a lot to love about the new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado’s new 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine features a ton of advanced components and engineering. It’s lighter than the outgoing 4.3-litre V6 by about 170 kilograms while also being faster by a full second to get to 60 mph.

“The new Silverado 2.7L Turbo delivers impressive performance and fuel efficiency,” said Tim Asoklis, Silverado chief engineer. “It’s fun to drive every day — quick from the start and pulling hard under acceleration. With a highway fuel consumption rating of 10.3L/100 km, the truck is efficient while still offering plenty of capability to tackle weekend projects and trips to the lake.”

The engine in question has an average fuel economy rating of just 11.9 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, and 10.3 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway. This is about a litre per 100 kilometres better than in the Ford F-150 XLT and its 3.3-litre V6 engine, and also more efficient than the RAM 1500 V6.

The total power output is rated at 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque, and you can tow up to 3,266 kilograms and 7,200 pounds with the 2019 Silverado when it’s powered by the new 2.7-litre turbo.
